Physics of Sports Video
In this video we investigated the physics behind giants. A giant is a gymnastics event. It involves a gymnast circling around a bar by just spinning with great speeds around the bar in the middle. A giant is an olympic event that both girls and boys both compete in but the girls event is a little different than a boys is. A girls gymnast performs with uneven bars which is a large bar that also has an even bigger one behind it. While a boys giant is just one bar. As you can see below Griffin is participating in the boys giant. Giants involve a lot of strength and years of experience.
Concepts of Physics Used in our Project
Momentum- is the quantity of motion of a moving body. You can find momentum by multiplying the objects mass and its velocity. His momentum is 230 kgm/s.
Friction- is the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving one another. In giants there is a lot of friction/air resistance and to reduce the friction gymnasts use chalk and rube it all over there hands.
Velocity- is speed with direction. To calculate this we divided its circumference by its time. Its circumference is 12.1 meters and the time is 2.65 seconds and you should get 4.6mps
Center of gravity- is an objects average position of weight which is 0.7875 m.
Potential energy- iss the energy of an object or a system due to the position of the body or the arrangement of the particles of a system. Potential energies formula is Pe=mass x gravity x height. The potential energy at the top of the bar is 1995.8 joules. At the bottom is 1135.5 joules. On the bar the potential energy transfers to kinetic energy as Griffin spins around.
Kinetic energy- is when the objects energy which it possesses due to its motion. The formula is Ke= 1/2 x mass x velocity squared.
The kinetic energy is different due to air resistance. At the top of the bar its kinetic energy is 361 joules and at the bottom its 1444 joules.
Projectile motion-is a form of motion in which an object is thrown obliquely near the earth's surface, and it moves along a curved path under the action of gravity only. There is horizontal and vertical velocities. The horizontal velocity is the speed of an object going horizontally while vertical velocity is the speed of an object going vertically. Impact forces-an impact is a high force applied over a short time period when two or more bodies collide. The impact forces equation is, impact force=mv/t
Life lessons
I have gained some more skills that will do good for me throughout my life. First i have learned how to act in front of a camera. This will help me in my future career because if I need to know how to act in front of camera when staring in a commercial/ business opportunity. I have also learned how to upload and create a youtube video using iMovie. This will help me dramatically by allowing me to create as many videos as I want. Also this will help me if a group mate doesn't know how to make a video.
Along with my new perks I have learned that i need to work on a couple things.I could have had more emotions on the camera. I feel as if i should have smiled more and look at the camera more. Also I should have been more professional in front of the camera. I could have worn more clean and on topic clothes.
All in all this was an awesome project and hopefully I can be as privileged with great group mates next project.
Problems
We haven't faced as many problems as I thought. One problem could possibly be that we should have recorded a little faster and away from loud sounds.
