Chemical Equilibrium for Depression
Project Overview
In this project we individually had to pick a topic that shows chemical equilibrium. There was a list of about fifty topics and we had to research topics that seemed appealing to us. The objective of the project was to create a social media campaign to spread the knowledge that we researched. I happened to choose depression as my topic and I made an Instagram page. On the Instagram page, I explained the various impacts of external sources on the brain and how depression starts. When the brain is at equilibrium, then the person is neither too happy nor too sad. According to Le Chatelier's principle, when the brain is subjected to stress or depression, then the equilibrium is imbalanced. When a tragedy occurs, then the brain is not at equilibrium and dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine are under produced. The only way to combat this discrepancy is to exercise and take prescription drugs. In other words, the brain can't fix itself naturally and that is what I did a majority of my research on.

Reflection
This project was very different and open-ended. I learned many new things about myself and chemistry. To start, I learned how to do in-depth research involving a complicated subject. Depression was very hard to research and figure out how the brain functions with the disease. Many scientists still don't know how it completely works, but I did as much as I could to demonstrate chemical equilibrium for depression. Next, I learned how to market a product or idea on a social media page. This was hard, especially since we were supposed to get 100 followers and keep them enticed about our topic. I'm sure this will be helpful to know in the business world, specifically in marketing. This project really challenged me, but I really enjoyed the process looking back on it. There were a few negatives also. I was too confused on what the project was at the beginning and burned a lot of time doing nothing. This pressured me during the last few days and in the future I will work harder, earlier, so I won't be stressed out at the end. Finally, the project made me adjust to working individually instead of in a group, which I am not used to due to being in a group-based class. Relying on myself was a new feeling, and I need to do it more so I will feel more comfortable in being independent.
